California Desert Wild Rainbow Trout

New spot to explore and fish in the Southern California mountains. Took a long, long time to hike there. Wild trout were plentiful, but very easily frightened. Beautiful, rough scenery. Enjoy!

Hello,

I'm a SoCal native and have spent years chasing various native trout species throughout CA. Is there any chance that you'd be willing to provide some (even if very limited) information regarding the drainage where you caught this beautiful trout? Some enthusiasts and I are conducting surveys throughout SoCal with the help of biologists to determine if there are any remnant O.m.nelsoni or other Mexican strain natives in CA. The specimen photo'd here certainly looks like a potential candidate for further investigation. Thanks for you blog. I check back regularly. Your reviews on cameras have proved very helpful. I recently went with the GoPro Hero 3 but am not thrilled with the still image quality. The images are rarely focused and the detail seems to be lacking. Any recommendations?

Thanks!
Jim

Hi JimtheFlyGuy,
Thanks for the kind words. The GoPro 3 is awesome, but it, like almost all action camera, lacks a close up/macro focus option, hence the unclear focus :(
